コンクラーベ～conclave

 　現地時間7日夕方（日本時間8日未明）に始まったコンクラーベの最初の投票では、
残念ながら次期教皇は決まりませんでした。システィーナ礼拝堂の煙突から黒い煙が
上がったことで確認されました。

現在、教皇候補として具体的に名前が挙がっているのは以下の枢機卿の方々です。

• ピエトロ・パロリン枢機卿 (70歳): フランシスコ教皇の側近で、外交手腕が高
  く評価されています。
• ルイス・アントニオ・タグレ枢機卿 (67歳): アジア初の教皇候補として期待さ
  れています。
• ラザロ・ユ・フンシク枢機卿 (73歳): 北朝鮮との対話実績から平和の推進者と
  して注目されています。
• フリドリン・アンボンゴ・ベスンガ枢機卿 (65歳): 紛争地域での活動経験があ
  ります。
• ジョセフ・ウィリアム・トービン枢機卿 (72歳): 移民支援に取り組んでいます。
• ペーテル・エルドー枢機卿 (73歳): 保守派の代表とされています。
• ジャン＝マルク・アヴリーヌ枢機卿 (66歳): フランシスコ教皇と近い理念を持
  つと見られています。

　しかし、これらはあくまで有力候補として名前が挙がっているだけで、最終的に
誰が選ばれるかはコンクラーベでの枢機卿による投票によって決まります。
　コンクラーベの日程についてですが、過去の例を見ると、比較的短期間で決まる
こともあります。例えば、2005年のベネディクト16世と2013年のフランシスコ教皇
の選出はいずれも2日間で決着しています。
　今回のコンクラーベがどの程度の期間で決まるかは現時点では予測できません。
新しい教皇が選出されるまで投票は続けられ、選出された際にはシスティーナ礼拝堂
の煙突から白い煙が上がります。
　どのような教皇が決まるのか世界への影響も大きいでしょうね。

As for the date of the conclave, looking at past examples, it can sometimes be decided in a relatively short period of time. For example, the election of Pope Benedict XVI in 2005 and Pope Francis in 2013 were both decided in two days.

It is not possible to predict at this point how long this conclave will take to decide.

Voting will continue until a new pope is elected, and when he is elected, white smoke will rise from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel.
