　「水で動くエンジン」という言葉は、いくつかの異なる概念を指している可能性
がありますがこの場合、水から水素を取り出し、水素を燃料としてエンジンを動
かすことを意味します。
　技術的には、水の電気分解によって水素を生成し、それを燃料として内燃機関や
燃料電池で利用することが可能です。
　トヨタ自動車は、燃料電池車「MIRAI」を販売しており、水素社会の実現に向け
た取り組みを推進しています。
　また、水素エンジン車の開発も進めており、モータースポーツなどの場で技術の
可能性を追求しています。
　トヨタ自動車が開発・販売している燃料電池車「MIRAI」について、詳しくご説
明します。
　MIRAIとは
　MIRAIは、水素と酸素の化学反応によって電気を生み出し、モーターを駆動させ
て走行する燃料電池車（FCV）です。
　走行中に二酸化炭素などの排出ガスを一切出さないため、究極の環境対応車とし
て注目されています。
　MIRAIの特長
　優れた環境性能:走行中に排出するのは水のみで、二酸化炭素や有害な排出ガスを
　　　　　　　　一切排出しません。
　　　　　　　　空気清浄システムを搭載しており、走行中に空気中の微粒子状物質
　　　　　　　　（PM2.5など）を浄化する機能も備えています。
　長い航続距離:水素充填1回あたりの航続距離が長く、長距離移動にも対応できます。

　静かで快適な走行性能:モーター駆動のため、走行音が非常に静かで、滑らかな加速

　先進的なデザインと快適な室内空間:先進的でスタイリッシュなデザインと、上質な
素材を使用した快適な室内空間が特徴です。
　外部給電機能:大規模災害時には発電機として活用できる外部給電機能も搭載されて
います。
　MIRAIの技術
　MIRAIには、トヨタ自動車が長年培ってきた燃料電池技術とハイブリッド技術が融合
した「トヨタフューエルセルシステム（TFCS）」が搭載されています。
　このシステムは、高効率な燃料電池スタックや高圧水素タンクなどで構成されて

　MIRAIの課題
　水素ステーションの数がまだ少ないため、水素充填インフラの整備が課題です。
　車両価格が比較的高価です。トヨタ自動車の燃料電池車「MIRAI」の価格は、
