神楽

 東京大宇宙線研究所などが運用する重力波の観測装置「かぐら（ＫＡＧＲＡ）」という
名前には、日本の文化や研究の特徴が込められています。 
①「KAGRA」の意味とは？ 
 「KAGRA」は、日本の伝統的な舞（まい）である「神楽（かぐら）」から名付けられ
 ました。神楽は、神さまに感謝したり、お祈りしたりするための踊りや音楽です。重力
 波の観測も、宇宙の神秘（しんぴ）を探る研究なので、「神楽」のように宇宙のメッセ
ージを受け取るという意味がこめられています。 
 また、「KAGRA」という名前は、英語の「Kamioka Gravitational Wave Detector
 （神岡重力波観測装置）」の頭文字をとったものでもあります。K（Kamioka）＋
   GRA（Gravitational wave）を合わせた言葉になっています。 
 ② どんな思いが込められているの？
   KAGRA」には、次のような思いが込められています。 
   1.神楽」のように、宇宙の不思議なリズム（波）を感じ取りたい！
     → 神楽が神さまのための舞なら、KAGRAは宇宙からの重力波をとらえるための
        装置です。 
   2.日本ならではの技術を生かした研究！
   　→ KAGRAは、世界で初めて地下に作られた重力波望遠鏡です。また、鏡を冷や
         してノイズを減らすという特別な技術が使われています。 
   3.世界中の人たちと協力して、宇宙の謎を解き明かしたい！
       → 重力波の研究は、日本だけでなく、アメリカやヨーロッパの研究者とも協力
          しています。 
          つまり「KAGRA」という名前には、「日本の技術を生かして、宇宙の神秘を
          とらえ、人類みんなで研究を進めたい！」という思いが込められているんです。

"KAGRA" is named after "Kagura", a traditional Japanese dance. Kagura is a dance and music performed to express gratitude and pray to the gods. Gravitational wave observation is also a research that explores the mysteries of the universe, so like "Kagura", it contains the meaning of receiving a message from the universe.
