知能情報社会学部～Faculty of Intelligent Information and Society

　ZEN大学は、公益財団法人日本財団と株式会社ドワンゴが提携して設立した、
日本初の本格的なオンライン大学です。
　2025年4月に開学予定で、2024年11月12日から学生募集を開始しています。
　学長予定者は若山正人氏です。
　若山正人氏は、日本の数学者・教育者であり、専門は表現論や解析的整数論です。 ​
1955年11月生まれで、1978年に東京理科大学理学部数学科を卒業し、1985年に
広島大学大学院理学研究科博士課程を修了し、理学博士号を取得しました。
　その後、福山大学専任講師、鳥取大学助教授、九州大学助教授を経て、1997年に
九州大学教授に就任しました。​
　九州大学では、数理学研究院長やマス・フォア・インダストリ研究所の初代所長、
理事・副学長などを歴任しました。
　2021年10月からは、日本電信電話株式会社（NTT）の数学基礎研究センタで数学
研究プリンシパルを務めています。 ​
　若山氏は、数学が社会の課題解決につながることを信じており、AIやIoTの時代に
おいて、先端技術がブラックボックス化しないよう、数学の役割を重視しています。
　​また、ZEN大学の学長予定者として、オンライン教育を通じて多様な人材の育成に
取り組んでいます。
　唯一の学部である「知能情報社会学部」では、特定の学問領域に偏らない学びを
提供し、AI時代に対応するためのリテラシーを身につけることを目的としています。
　カリキュラムは、「数理」「情報」「文化・思想」「社会・ネットワーク」「
経済・マーケット」「デジタル産業」の6つの分野を横断的に学ぶ構成となっており、
約250以上の科目から自分に合った学びを選ぶことができます。
　ZEN大学の指針は、オンライン教育とリアルな現場体験を融合させ、多様性のある
コミュニティと社会貢献を軸にした学びを提供することです。これにより、AI社会を
生き抜くために必要なリテラシーを身につけた自立した人材の育成を目指しています。
　年間授業料は38万円に設定されており、奨学金など多彩なサポートも用意されてい
ます。
　ZEN大学はオンライン大学であるため、特定のキャンパスを持たず、インターネット
を通じて全国どこからでも学ぶことが可能です。
　ZEN大学は、最先端のIT技術を活用し、すべての人に大学進学の機会を提供すること
を理念としています。​唯一の学部である「知能情報社会学部」では、特定の学問領域に
偏らず、多様な知識を修めることで、AI時代に適応し活躍できるリテラシーを身につけ
ることを目指しています。
　ZEN大学の学生募集は順調に進んでいます。​2025年1月31日時点で、出願者数は
3,000名を超えました。 ​さらに、2025年3月初旬には出願者数が3,500名を突破し、
全体の専願率は86％となっています。 ​
　現在、第5期の出願を受け付けており、締め切りは2025年3月25日（火）となって
います。​出願方法や募集要項の詳細は、ZEN大学の出願・入学案内のWebページで
確認できます。 ​
　また、年間授業料や入学検定料・入学金を全額免除する「日本財団ZEN大学奨学金」
の1次募集では、433件の応募がありました。​応募者の世帯年収は399万円以下が64.0
％と最も多く、奨学金制度が多くの方にとって重要な要素であることがわかります。 ​
　オンライン大学の特性を活かし、海外からの受講生を受け入れる、もしくは海外の
大学と提携して国際的な学びを提供する可能性もあります。英語による講義や海外
大学との単位互換制度などが導入されれば、よりグローバルな大学へと発展するかも
しれません。
ZEN大学は、伝統的な大学とは異なる新しい学びの形を提案する大学として、日本の
高等教育の未来に影響を与える可能性があります。成功すれば、オンライン教育の
普及をさらに加速させ、他の大学にも影響を与えるようなモデルケースになるかもし
れません。日本財団が運営に当たっているのも大きいですね。そして何よりも学費が
安い点が大きなメリットになっているのかもしれませんね。また、オンラインを通じ
て海外の大学との連携も大きなメリットになっていくのかもしれませんね。

ZEN University is Japan's first full-scale online university, established in partnership between the Nippon Foundation and Dwango Co., Ltd. It is scheduled to open in April 2025, and will begin accepting students from November 12, 2024. The university's president is Masato Wakayama. Masato Wakayama is a Japanese mathematician and educator who specializes in representation theory and analytical number theory. Born in November 1955, he graduated from the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science of Tokyo University of Science in 1978, and completed his doctoral studies at the Graduate School of Science at Hiroshima University in 1985, receiving his PhD in Science. He then served as a full-time lecturer at Fukuyama University, an assistant professor at Tottori University, and an assistant professor at Kyushu University, before becoming a professor at Kyushu University in 1997. At Kyushu University, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, the first director of the Institute of Mathematics for Industry, and a director and vice president. Since October 2021, he has served as a research principal at the Mathematics Foundations Research Center of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). Wakayama believes that mathematics can help solve social problems, and in the age of AI and IoT, he places importance on the role of mathematics to prevent cutting-edge technology from becoming a black box. As the president-elect of ZEN University, he is also working to develop diverse human resources through online education. The only faculty, the Faculty of Intelligent Information and Society, aims to provide learning that is not biased toward a specific academic field and to acquire literacy to respond to the AI ​​era. The curriculum is structured to study six fields across the board: "Mathematics," "Information," "Culture and Thought," "Society and Networks," "Economy and Market," and "Digital Industry," and students can choose from over 250 subjects to study according to their needs. ZEN University's guideline is to combine online education with real-world experience to provide learning centered on a diverse community and social contribution. This aims to cultivate independent human resources who have acquired the literacy necessary to survive in an AI society.

The annual tuition fee is set at 380,000 yen, and various support such as scholarships are also available.

ZEN University is an online university, so it does not have a specific campus and students can study from anywhere in the country via the Internet.

ZEN University's philosophy is to use cutting-edge IT technology to provide everyone with the opportunity to go to university. ​The only faculty, the Faculty of Intelligent Information and Society, aims to acquire the literacy to adapt and play an active role in the AI ​​era by acquiring diverse knowledge without being biased towards a specific academic field.

ZEN University's student recruitment is progressing smoothly. ​As of January 31, 2025, the number of applicants exceeded 3,000. ​Furthermore, the number of applicants exceeded 3,500 in early March 2025, and the overall application rate was 86%. Applications are currently being accepted for the fifth period, with a deadline of March 25, 2025 (Tuesday). ZEN University, as a university that proposes a new form of learning that differs from traditional universities, has the potential to influence the future of higher education in Japan. If successful, it may further accelerate the spread of online education and become a model case that influences other universities. It's also great that the Nippon Foundation is in charge of running the school. And above all, the low tuition fees are a big advantage. Also, the online collaboration with overseas universities may be a big advantage.
