大いに狂いましょう！！～Let's go crazy!!

　「諸君、狂いたまえ」という言葉は、よく吉田松陰の言葉として引用されますが、
実は彼の直接の言葉として確認できる史料はありません。 
　しかし、その精神に通じるような考え方は、彼の言動や書簡から十分に読み取る
ことができます。
　吉田松陰は幕末の思想家・教育者であり、松下村塾で多くの志士たちを育てまし
た。彼は、単なる学問ではなく、実践を重視し、強い志を持って行動することを弟
子たちに説きました。
　その中で、「狂」や「気違い」という言葉を積極的に使い、自らも「狂愚（狂人
のように愚かである）」であることを誇りとしました。
　たとえば、松陰の遺した言葉に次のようなものがあります。
　　「かくすれば かくなるものと知りながら やむにやまれぬ大和魂」 
　　（こうすればこうなると分かっていても、どうしてもやめられないのが
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　大和魂だ）
　これは、彼が密航を試みた際の心境を表した句ですが、「結果がどうであれ、
志を貫く」という覚悟が表れています。
　また、『講孟箚記（こうもうさっき）』という書物の中で、孟子の「知識人
は狂うべきだ」という趣旨の言葉を引用し、それに共感している記述があります。
　このことから、松陰が「狂う」という言葉を「常識にとらわれず、大胆に行動
すること」と捉えていたことがわかります。
　もし吉田松陰が「諸君、狂いたまえ」と弟子たちに呼びかけたとすれば、それ
は「世の中の常識や因習にとらわれるな」「命を惜しまず、志を貫け」という
意味であったでしょう。
　実際に彼の弟子たちは、高杉晋作、久坂玄瑞、伊藤博文など、時代を動かす
大きな変革者となりました。
　幕末という激動の時代において、ただ慎重に生きるのではなく、「時には
狂人のように突き進む覚悟を持て」というのが松陰の思想の根幹だったのです。
　「諸君、狂いたまえ」という言葉が吉田松陰の史実として確認できるわけで
はありませんが、その精神は確かに彼の思想に通じるものがあります。
　松陰が弟子たちに求めたのは、「時流に流されず、命を懸けて信念を貫く
こと」。それを「狂う」という言葉で表したのかもしれません。
　今を生きる我々にとっても必要な言葉なのかもしれませんね。
　大いに狂いましょう！！

The phrase "Gentlemen, go crazy" is often quoted as the words of Yoshida Shoin, but in fact there is no historical document that can confirm that he actually said it.

However, a way of thinking that is in line with this spirit can be easily gleaned from his words, actions and letters.

Yoshida Shoin was a thinker and educator at the end of the Edo period, and he nurtured many philosophical scholars at the Shoka Sonjuku school. He taught his students to place importance on practice rather than mere academic study, and to act with strong will.

In this regard, he actively used the words "mad" and "insane," and was proud of being "as stupid as a madman" himself.

For example, the following are some of the words left behind by Shoin:

"Even though I know that this is what will happen if I do this, I cannot help but stop. This is the Japanese spirit." This is a poem that expresses his state of mind when he tried to stow away, and shows his determination to "follow through with my will, whatever the outcome." In addition, in the book "Koumousakki," there is a passage in which he quotes Mencius' words to the effect that "intellectuals should go crazy," and expresses his sympathy with this. From this, we can see that Shoin understood the word "go crazy" to mean "to act boldly without being bound by common sense." If Yoshida Shoin had called out to his students, "Go crazy, gentlemen," it would have meant "don't be bound by the common sense and customs of the world," and "don't hesitate to sacrifice your life, follow through with your will." In fact, his students, such as Takasugi Shinsaku, Kusaka Genzui, and Ito Hirobumi, became great reformers who shook the times.

In the turbulent times of the late Edo period, the core of Shoin's philosophy was not to simply live cautiously, but to "be prepared to sometimes charge forward like a madman."

Although the words "Gentlemen, go crazy" cannot be confirmed as historical fact from Yoshida Shoin, the spirit is certainly consistent with his philosophy.

What Shoin asked his students to do was "not to be swept away by the tides of the times, but to stick to your beliefs even at the risk of your life." Perhaps he expressed this with the word "go crazy."

Perhaps these are words that we living today also need.
